Maurice's Metal Mitzvah

Part of the fun of doing Bar and Bat Mitzvahs, is that we get to work with kids. Kids love identifying their special day with some type of a theme, and our latest Bar Mitzvah was no different. When we first met with Maurice and his family, he sat across from us with little to say, almost sulking behind his black concert t-shirt. We asked about his hobbies and activities, what he loved about school, what he wanted from his Bar Mitzvah party? He just wasn't sure. Finally, I asked about the "retro" heavy metal concert t-shirt he was wearing, and his face lit up! We walked out of the meeting, looked at each other and said, Can we really pull off a heavy metal themed Bar Mitzvah??!

Pull it off, we did. Starting with the guests seating cards- concert ticket style and pinned to a "Will Call" board.



We created centerpieces that doubled as the guests' seating assignments with some of Maurice's favorite bands as the inspiration. Most were heavy metal bands, but a few classic rock bands (for the parents and family friends) were thrown in.

Our color palette of black, silver, white and electric blue dominated the scene. The lighting was all designed in blue, with a large feature lighting design that created a focal point in a place that normally is a run down  and empty space within the room. We had clouds moving across Maurice's name logo, which added movement and interest to the design. A huge thanks to Spotlight Entertainment for helping this lighting vision come true!

The party itself was an absolute ball; the guests drank and danced and cheered on Maurice's efforts. It was an evening that was a beautiful blend between a kid theme that really said "Maurice" and an upscale, formal evening that commemorated this special occasion.

This event taught Karen and I that no matter how obscure the theme may seem at first, if it is rooted in who our guest of honor IS, then with a little creativity and ingenuity we can make it come to life!

Busy, Busy, Busy...

It's that time of year. The start of a new school year always seems like a fresh start- for seasons, for events and for new memories made! This fresh start has been particularly inspirational for us at La Soiree Chic. We're breathing new life into our Facebook Page, which has become a great outlet for us. We love sharing our favorite party tips, photos that inspire our ideas and current news about what's new in our world (i.e Real-life party photos and our exciting new launch of Themed Decorative Party Rentals for our local Los Angelenos!)

We're busy prepping for a Heavy Metal themed Bar Mitzvah (Yes, that's what I said), a Halloween Party (dreaming of a unique color palette...maybe blue, black and silver...), some gorgeous wedding bouquets and creating our most exciting decor collections yet! Stay tuned!

Secret Speakeasy

When a reputable private school approached us about helping with their annual fundraising Gala, we were excited about the challenge and loved the chance to be part of helping raise funds to better children's educations!

The biggest challenge lay in the fact that the school hoped to use it's new gym, which would be plenty big enough, but was...well, a School Gym- not exactly the look you want for a beautiful Gala. The first idea that came to mind was to create a 20's inspired, yet Modern Day, Speakeasy. It was less about wanting to make it a "theme party" and more about the fact that we knew when guests heard the Gala was going to be at the School Gym, there was potential for a little grumbling. Let's use that to our advantage to knock their socks off after the gym is transformed into a gorgeous event space!

And TRANSFORMED, it was!


Guests could literally not believe their eyes- from the boarded up speakeasy set entrance (complete with "bouncer" awaiting the secret password) to the flappers and henchmen tray passing champagne and cocktails, the guests were transported from High School Gym to a luxury space designed for fun-making!



We had a great time coming up with the entertainment, the run of the evening, but especially the variety of centerpieces: Tall, fringed lamps, Plumes of ostrich feathers and vignettes of old books, cigar boxes, antique decanters and gorgeous floral arrangements.


The evening ran without a hitch, and Karen and I finally breathed a sigh of relief as Grammy Award winning artist, Bryan McKnight took the stage. His honey-like voice filled the room, and it was then that we looked at each other and gave the secret wink. School gym transformed, experience successful and money raised- the perfect trio!!

Pretty in Pink

On a gorgeous summer day, a beautiful bride and her closest family and friends came together in an elegant backyard setting to celebrate her upcoming nuptials. Using a feminine color palette of pale, blush pink contrasted with black, it was all about the details at this lovely soiree...


We welcomed guests with a thirst quenching station of everything pink and yummy- Raspberry and Strawberry-Kiwi Lemonades and sugar rimmed glasses of Kir Royale.


We needed to beat the heat, so the client offered a sweet, pink fan as a favor and heat-buster. Although it was warm, we lucked out on the weather, and the plentiful shade, cool drinks and handy fans just made it all the more pleasant!


The tables were simple, yet gorgeous and we overheard many of the guests raving about the beauty. We created floral arrangements of stunning peonies and country roses accented by a crisp black ribbon and a rhinestone buckle. Black chandeliers brought  in an extra accent and proved that it doesn't have to be a night time event to warrant the use of beautiful candles...



Little details peppered the party- from individual wine charms and seating cards to the bride's signature (pink) drink.

The catering was perfect for a late morning brunch: scones, cream, jam, grilled vegetables, and a light, delicious chicken dish that left the guest raving.

We loved getting "girlie" with it and trimmed the dessert table in a bride-worthy blush pink tulle skirt.



French Macaroons, a host of cookies, candies and a feminine cake trimmed in "bling" enticed the guests.


It was a bridal shower to cherish. A group of lovely guests, a gorgeous day and an atmosphere that leaves a lasting impression. Congratulations to our Blushing Bride!!
